Alex at the Movies
Well, I didn't think we'd be taking Alex to the movies until he was a toddler at least but tonight he enjoyed his very first flick--Iron Man 2.

There's a local movie theatre that has Diaper Date Night movie screenings where couples and their little ones can get out of the house and meet up with other parents/babies in a kid-friendly environment. The had baby safe lighting and sound levels inside.

Before Alex, Matt and I were always on top of all the box office hits so we're thrilled to have a workaround.
We couldn't believe how packed the place was and were lucky enough to find a seat. Alex slept through most of the movie in Matt's arms but there were a couple of moments where I saw his eyes open and he calmly stared at the screen. He's so cute! Can't get over it.
We had a relatively good night and day. He slept in a 4 hour blocked followed by a 5 hour block and we were all lucky enough to sleep in until 9:30am. Matt and I definitely needed it. We both felt really refreshed all day. After waking up we went to the mall for a walk since the weather outside is really weird and rainy (hello? May??) Alex seemed like he needed a change of scenery anyway and we hadn't visited the mall in awhile.
He was good about all his naps today too but I'm not holding my breath for the rest of the week.
2 more weeks and and it's back to work! Getting a little nervous!

10 Weeks
Trying to stay off Facebook in case any East Coasters spoil the Lost finale for us! I've barely had any time to post this week. Alex has been a little...(why am I sugarcoating-- A LOT) fussier than usual. I know we had some good days but we also had some challenging ones too. I can't even remember which days were which. Even though he's officially 10 weeks old today we kind of count him as a 6 weeker since we're taking his preemieness into account.
He seems to be having issues with being overtired. He has trouble taking naps during the day and then gets exhausted and then because of that can't fall asleep. It's a vicious circle. Luckily he's better throughout the night for the most part so we seem to have just the right amount of energy to deal with the day challenges.
Two books that have helped us a little are Happiest Baby On the Block and Health Sleep Habits, Happy Child. We've been able to utilize a few tips and tricks. And we LOVE the internet because we are able to find specific answers to questions like "what does it mean when my baby turns red and makes straining noises in his swing but has his eyes closed?"
My parents have been an immense help. My mom or dad will take him off our hands right before we hit our breaking points! They seem to be able to calm him down almost immediately, something we haven't exactly perfected. We think it's because Alex can feel our impatience after awhile and maybe has trouble relaxing. Keeping calm is sometimes easier said than done when you feel like you've tried absolutely everything!
For those moments that he's happy and awake though we've been playing with him a lot on his gymini, reading to him, singing songs, taking outdoor walks etc.

He has fallen asleep on his gymini a couple of times

He has been smiling and cooing a lot more but every time I try to take a photo of it he stops. I guess it make sense that he would rather look at our faces rather than a gadget. He loves staring at us. It's too cute. He's also making lots of new sounds, mostly resembling nonsensical vowel combinations. I did get to steal this one photo which I absolutely adore.

I always seem to have a million things on my mind but can't get them all down in a post so I'll back track a little and share a hodgepodge of things I've missed.
Matt's mom is a 3rd grade teacher in England. One of the mothers of her students made these for Alex!

Here's the Mother's Day/Anniversary present I got this year. I also got a top from Mango.

Our friend Erik came to visit last week. Alex immediately went from sad to happy when Erik held him.

Here I am about to run and errand with Alex

One of our silly moments. We tied Alex up in his gown. They're so huge on him.
He has outgrown his "NB" sized clothes now and fitting into 0-3M. We just went through his closet AGAIN and swapped out the old, replaced it with the new.

In this photo he looks really similar to some of the 3D ultrasound photos we took. When he sleeps, he sleeps well. I hope to have more of these moments this week!!

Last week, Matt and I decided we had too much food in the house and made a deal that we'd stop all grocery shopping (apart from fresh fruits and veggies) and use up our existing inventory. It felt oddly cathartic. Instead of using any actual recipes we just threw a bunch or random ingredients together and thankfully every dish we created came out super tasty.

Haven't posted a Mau photo in awhile. Caught her with her tongue out!
